Dragonfruit Crochet Pattern

Bright and beautiful, this tropical fruit is as fun to make as it is to look at! Perfect for the play kitchen or home decor for summer!

One of the first patterns I ever free-handed was produce (are we surprised? No, no we are not). I can’t remember if it was *this* dragonfruit or a different food item but I’ve been obsessed with this pattern ever since!

Simple shapes and basic construction make this particular pattern sing, while it’s technically an Intermediate pattern. (according to The American Crochet Association’s guidelines), I feel that a beginner could easily learn these techniques and make this dragonfruit with minimal issues. Plus, I’m only a message away if you have any issues!

But what am I doing still chatting? We’ve been going through the alphabet of crocheted cuisine  (and we’ve got A, B & C done)- the letter D awaits! Let’s get to crocheting!

Stitch Instructions

Changing Colors

To change color at the end of a SC, begin your SC as normal (insert your hook, yarn over and pull through).

However, instead of yarning over with your current color at the end and pulling through the final time, drop your current color and place your new color on your hook.

Pull through with the new color and you’re done!

Invisible Decrease

To create an Invisible Decrease start by inserting your hook into the front loop only of the next st. Then, instead of yarning over as in a standard decrease, insert your hook into the front loop only of the next st as well (3 loops on your hook).

Yarn over and pull through two loops.

Yarn over and pull through the remaining two loops.

Assembly

Using your long tails, sew the 3 Large Leaves towards the base of the Dragonfruit- I sewed mine into round 6.

Then sew on the Medium Leaves, centered between the tips of the Large Leaves, near the middle of the Dragonfruit- I sewed mine into round 13.

Finish with the Small Leaves, centering them between the tips of the Medium Leaves- I sewed mine into round 20.

This final step is the MOST IMPORTANT.

Sit back and admire your work! It looks amazing.

You should be very proud!
